This was Jochem’s second year of being a part of Isle of Man TT.
Known for being one of the fatal races, it’s not the first time that the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy has seen a racer dying whilst racing through the village on the winding race course. This time, it was the Dutch rider Jochem Van Den Hoek who met with an atrocious accident and ended up giving up his life. Astride his TC Racing Honda bike, the racer was just on his first lap and crashed immediately after reaching the 11th milestone.
In the previous year’s Superbike Tourist Trophy, 28-year-old Jochem debuted in this exciting island race event and stood 41st. He also took part in Superstock and Senior TT category where he bagged 34th and 36th position, respectively. Doing more and more rounds on the track, Jochem had come a long way in this one year and progressed, which was evident by his 27th position finish in the RST Superbike race and had hung the bronze medal around his neck.
The death of Jochem Van Den Hoek finished the career of a potential racer who could have performed really well in the coming years of motorcycle racing business. However, such misfortunes planned by destiny are inevitable and we have no other option except for accepting it. May his soul rest in peace and his friends and family get the necessary courage to handle the sorrow.
