Apart from the new Suzuki scooter, a middle-weight motorcycle is also expected to arrive as CKD unit
Scooters are gaining as much popularity as motorcycles in India and resultantly most of the manufacturers are having a keen eye on this market. Especially, the humungous popularity acquired by the Aprilia SR150 have made many competitors want to release similar products and enjoy a fair market share. With the same thought, Suzuki might be unveiling a premium scooter at the Auto Expo 2018 along with another high-capacity motorcycle.
The exact model to be showcased is still unknown but reports suggest that it will be an exciting product and will attract a lot of attention. Also, it will be powered by a stronger engine than the company’s current high selling Access 125. Suzuki earlier reported that it will be focussing on the premium segment and going by the statement, the launch of a 150cc scooter seems just right.
As for the second product, it has been presumed that it will be a middle-weight premium motorcycle. Looking at the Suzuki’s current portfolio, the two models which fit the bill are the V-Strom 650 and the GSX-S750. While the former is an adventure tourer, the latter is an aggressive and stylish naked street-fighter. Whichever comes here, it will arrive as CKD (completely knocked down) unit.
The Auto Expo 2018 will be held in February in India and several manufacturers will utilize the platform to showcase their new offerings. Not just Suzuki, other manufacturers such as TVS are also gearing up to spawn a 150cc scooter and give the Aprilia product a tough fight. However, looking at the frugalness and adaptability of 125cc scooters, Aprilia will soon launch a 125cc iteration of the SR150 as the rival to the Honda’s best selling Activa 125 and Suzuki Access 125.
