The motorcycles will head out of the garage on days such as carnival, parade and Predential visits.
The Indian police department is upping the ante by upgrading their means of commute. Recently, the Kolkata police department received Harley-Davidson motorcycles which will be used on special occasions. They already have numerous Royal Enfield 350cc bikes which are used for daily patrolling and commuting as well as for special days at times of escorting a VIP or in rallies. But now, on such days, people of Kolkata will encounter the police team plying on Harley-Davidson Street 750 bikes gloriously around the city.
As reported by the Deputy Commissioner of Police of traffic department of Kolkata, five Harley-Davidson Street 750 motorcycles have been acquired for Rs. 5.5 lakhs each. These motorcycles were received two months ago but, since they are not for the regular purposes, they were ridden on the roads on 15th August for the first time which is celebrated as Independence day. The commissioner also added that as these premium bikes will only be used for ceremonial purposes, they have a periodic maintenance plan for the motorcycles.
Although the Poice department across India uses Royal Enfield motorcycles for on-duty purposes, having these bikes in the fleet is a pleasant update. The number of these bikes handed over to the Kolkata police is limited to five, albeit we might see more cities using them in more number in the future. The Harley-Davidson Street 750 is cruiser style motorcycle with 749cc V-twin engine mated to a six-speed gearbox. It develops 59 Nm of torque obtained at 3750 RPM.
